The Way We Were

Every weekend. Every free night. Every ball game. Every birthday.

Countless stories told. Countless dinners shared. Countless memories made.

Trips to the beach and Sunday night pancakes.

Walks around the lake and rides in The Pickle.

Cards in the mailbox and notes on the windshield.

Dance recitals, movies, sleepovers, and late-night Dairy Queen runs.

No sleep, no worries, no doubt.

Visions of holidays, houses and shared happiness.

Feeling blessed. Feeling more than blessed. Feeling like it was all absolutely perfect.

Being in complete wonder, complete amazement, offering nothing but gratitude for such a gift.

The assurance of "meant to be".

The excitement of forever.

The decades of friendship turned into future generations.

Realizing what "unconditional" really means and what true acceptance requires.

Looking back and looking forward and knowing things will never be that certain again.

Still feeling blessed in spite of it all.

Still hoping we will one day be the way we were...one day.
